Purchasing a Bird for a young Family

It can work. Greys tend to do good in households that are not chaotic and loud. The whole family has to make a commitment to work with the bird together. If one person takes all the responsibility, the bird will appear to become a one person bird and behavior issues can develop.
I have found that a perfect family companion pet is a cockatiel. They are not to be considered a starter bird, but an all round perfect parrot. They happily go to any family member and it may be the great introduction for your young childern to learn how to care for a bird and to the world of birds!

Hi Heather,
I agree with Lisa. Cockatiels make great pets, particularly for families who are learning about birds. BUT they should not be seen as "starter birds," only. They are fabulous pets!
