Nervous Behaviors

Postby merlin » Sun Jul 17, 2011 5:45 pm

Hello Everyone,

Many people have been contacting me about their birds acting very nervous... nail chewing, phobic-like behavior, and sometimes nervously picking, night frights, day frights, fear of their perches... and so on.

Many of our Greys are super-sensitive to everything that is going on around them. This includes all of the physical things that are happening on earth: earthquakes, tsunamis, super-tornados, level 5+ hurricanes, haboob dust storms, floods, and on and on. The animals are more aware and sensitive to this than we humans are. Please visit the article section of this site and scroll down to the "other issues" section. There are a few good articles written by Jane Hallander (a great Grey behavior consultant who died of cancer in 2002) that talk about Greys and earthquakes and other earth calamities.

If your bird acts nervous, just remind him: "You are SAFE!" Your bird is not "weird" for acting so nervous, this is a tentative time right now. Stay calm and understanding. I have a game that I play with my greys called the Shadow game. They used to be afraid of their shadows on the walls at night. I would go over to a wall and play with my shadow. I would laugh and say "Shadow! Look at my shadow! Look at Merlin's shadow. Shadow, shadow." Now, when they are afraid of things, they calm down when I remind them of "Shadow!" Focusing on calming your birds will also help you in these unstable times.

Blessings,
Maggie-
